Vårt hjem

Discover the central Texas Gulf Coast in my 1906 Texas Historic Landmark! "Moore House" is a charming 1875-sq.ft. bungalow with 2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, gourmet kitchen, living room, dining room, home office, and luxurious walk-in closet for the bedrooms. Fully restored, original hardwood floors and shiplap-wall construction; filled with contemporary furnishings and original artwork. Relax in lush gardens created and maintained by a master gardener. The home is wheelchair-accessible (handicap ramp and bathroom) on the main floor, but all bedrooms are on the 2nd floor.

The fully stocked kitchen was completely remodeled in 2008 and includes granite countertops, slate floors, stainless steel appliances, open cabinetry, open pantry, hammered tin ceiling, and a 15-in. flat screen TV. A small kitchen table seats 2-4, and the larger dining room table seats 6-8. Off the kitchen is a full washer and dryer.

The living room seats 6 and is furnished with Italian sofa and chair, and two leather Barcelona chairs. Walls are tastefully decorated with all original artwork. The entertainment center has a 42-in. flat-screen TV (satellite) with HD DVR, DVD player, and Bose stereo system with iPod docking station. Also a working gas fireplace in the living room.

The home office has a computer available for your use, free wireless Internet and a large desk. The office doubles as my sewing room. The downstairs half-bath is in the office.

Upstairs, the master bedroom has a contemporary Canadian maple platform bed (queen size, down pillows and duvet), dresser, and vanity. A 32-in. flat-screen TV and DVD player also in the master. The walls are decorated with original artwork from France. The 2nd bedroom/guest room has a trundle bed (two twins) and small dressing table, perfect for young children. The two twin beds can be combined to make a king if a couple is staying in here. A large dormer was converted into the ultimate walk-in closet for both upstairs bedrooms - a ladies' dream!

The full bath upstairs was completely remodeled in 2008. Has an antique clawfoot tub, shower, hand shower, linen closet and small sink/vanity. Also a small window with a wonderful view of the backyard gardens.

Outside, you can relax in the porch swing on the large covered front porch, and enjoy the sea breezes. The fenced back yard is filled with luxurious gardens and tall shade trees, as well as a large deck, charcoal grill and patio furniture. A single kayak may be available for your use (providing I don't take it with me), as well as a bicycle and some beach floats.
I am a non-smoker but you may smoke on the outside deck or porch swing.

Please note that I am in the process of restoring my 100-yr old windows. This is a project that will take a long time, so it's possible that during your stay a window or two will be in the midst of renovation. It won't affect your stay at all, just an FYI.

Vårt nærområde

Rockport is a quaint village on the central Gulf Coast of Texas with approximately 9000 residents. The nearest large city is Corpus Christi, 35 miles away. We are less than 200 miles away from San Antonio, Austin, and Houston. Rockport is known as a relaxing resort town that specializes in the out-of-doors: it features world-renowned birding, shallow or deep-sea fishing, boating, sailing, and other water sports. My home is situated 3 blocks from the water and approximately 1/2 mile from Rockport Marina and beach park. Also 3 blocks to downtown shops and galleries. Special attractions are detailed below:

For fishermen: the area has shallow bays and wetlands for wade fishing, fly fishing, sight fishing, or flounder gigging. Numerous local charter boats and fishing guides will take you on custom fishing trips. The area is known for redfish, black drum, and trout. Shrimping is a large local industry, and you can purchase shrimp fresh off the boats. Many local fishing tournaments take place throughout the year for those who enjoy friendly competitive fishing.

For birders: This area is a birder's paradise, being located along the Texas Tropical Trail and the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. We are known for a spectacular array of shorebirds, including great egrets, great blue herons, white ibis, snowy egrets, white and brown pelicans, kingfishers, cormorants, sandpipers, many species of ducks and geese, and the spectacular roseate spoonbill. In the fall, we are on the migratory flyway for hummingbirds and Monarch butterflies (celebrated with an annual Hummingbird Festival in September). From Nov to March, whooping cranes nest and raise their young in the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Year-round, Rockport hosts a bird sanctuary for black skimmer gulls. Many experienced guides are available to show you our birding wonders.

For the water sports enthusiast: The local bays and wetlands are perfect for kayaking, where you can closely observe protected species and enjoy the dolphins. Other popular water sports include jet skiing, surfing, water skiing, and wind surfing. The local city beach is 1 mile long, and nearby North and South Padre Island beaches stretch for hundreds of miles along the Texas coast. Our beaches are pristine and uncrowded!

For art lovers: Rockport is an artist colony, with numerous galleries, shops, and a museum (Rockport Center for the Arts) that specialize in coastal art by local artists. Our annual Art Festival is held over the 4th of July holiday.

For history lovers: The area has many historic homes and buildings, some of which are open for tours. Rockport hosts an annual Christmas Historic Homes Tour in December; my home was on this tour in 2008. Battlefields, museums and monuments important to the Texas Revolution can be visited in Goliad, Texas, approximately 70 miles north of Rockport.

For food lovers: There are many fine local restaurants, with seafood as a popular specialty. But many times the best meals to be had are those you make at home, using fresh local seafood and local market produce!

Only one very forgiving plant to take care of, and if you are a cat lover, I would be very appreciative if you would be willing to feed my cats during your stay, so that they can stay at home. If not, no problem, they will be boarded. My dogs will either be boarded or travel with me pending your approval. Your house-trained pets are welcome in my home and will be safe in my fenced back yard.

Winter or spring tend to be the best times for me to get away. But my business is portable (I only require a high-speed Internet connection) so other times of the year I can travel if I have access to the Internet.

Våre reisemål

My top interest is to travel to France (anywhere). Santa Fe or Jackson Hole are also favorites. I am open to weekends in the US, virtually anywhere (but if it's a short weekend, probably best to stay in the southwest). If you would like to escape to some place warm in the winter, I would love to exchange with you and play in the snow for a while!

Om oss

Se tilbakemeldinger om mine boligbytter

My name is Gail, I am a single female traveler in my early 50s, and a non-smoker. I have been self-employed for 18 years as a technical editor and digital publisher. I have two dogs (Chihuahuas) and two cats who keep me in great company. I am a certified Texas Master Gardener and love spending as much time as possible in my gardens. I love kayaking, hiking, bicycling, cross-country skiing, outdoor photography, sewing, and cooking. I am continuously trying to improve my French as I love the country and the language. My goals in travel are to see places in depth, where I can truly get a feel for the local lifestyle and get immersed in the culture. I will be traveling either alone or with a friend, and may travel with my dogs pending your approval.

I keep my home spotless and will give yours the same care and respect.
